Out on the Indian Ocean, Australian Navy patrols are searching for a needle in a haystack.
They have had three successful hits already this year — seizing over 950 kilograms of pure grade heroin, worth an estimated $800 million on the street.
In one case, a tip off from French air surveillance pointed HMAS Darwin to a suspect fishing boat. After intercepting it, and searching for 24 hours, they discovered a heroin cache weighing 500 kilograms.
