British Home Secretary promises crackdown on ‘deeply concerning’ illegal Channel migrant crossings

UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid has vowed to stem the flow of migrants attempting to reach the UK by crossing the English Channel illegally after a “record” 74 were intercepted travelling on eight boats over the weekend.
Speaking after officers from UK Border Force said they helped police stop the vessels on Saturday morning, Javid said he found the number of migrants involved in the crossing attempts “deeply concerning”, stressing that the journey had put lives in “grave danger”.
