Indonesia, Malaysia allowed ‘hot pursuit’ of Abu Sayyaf

MANILA: A senior military officer disclosed that their counterparts in Indonesia and Malaysia have been allowed to enter Philippine territory while in “hot pursuit” of members of the Al Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf terrorists and other criminal groups.
Major General Carlito Galvez, the chief of the military’s Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), explained allowing the presence of Indonesian and Malaysia troops in maritime areas of common concern is contained in an agreement signed by the three countries in 2016.
