We are very pleased to publish the 100th edition of the MAST Weekly Intelligence Report. When we established the report nearly 2 years ago, we set out to provide our clients and other interested readers with an informative distillation of key maritime news items and to provide analysis to help guide the ship operator. During this period we have seen probable terrorist attacks on shipping in the southern Red Sea, a spike in Somali piracy activity earlier this year, continued refugee movements in the Mediterranean and the outbreak of piracy in the Sulu sea. It has been clear that the maritime environment remains dangerous to those who are complacent and / or unwary.
I hope our many readers have found the first one hundred editions useful and that they have played a small part in helping to keep your ships and crews safe. Feedback on the reports is always welcome, and more in depth analysis is available on demand.
Fair winds and following seas, Gerry Northwood, COO to MAST ltd
