Iran to Berth Naval Warships in Italian Ports

News unlikely to be welcomed by other Mediterranean nations.
In its strategic efforts to acquire naval bases in the Mediterranean, Iran has negotiated a naval exchange deal with Italy to dock its warships in Italian ports.
Italy’s Navy commander, Rear-Admiral Roberto Chia Marcella, has visited Tehran twice in the last month, first on September 5 and again on Sept. 24. On Saturday, the first Italian frigate, Euro, docked at Bandar Abbas, home to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards command.
