The Nigerian coast and the Gulf of Guinea in general remain a “stronghold” of maritime piracy, with about thirty attacks noted, according to the 2016 report of the International Maritime Bureau (IMB).
“There has been a notable increase in the attacks, of which 36 have been recorded near the Nigerian coast in 2016 against 14 in 2015,” said the report published in January 2017 and consulted by Westafnews.
