MANILA, Philippines – The navies of the Philippines and the United States yesterday held a joint naval patrol in the Sulu Sea amid rising international concern about Islamist militancy and piracy in the region.
The joint patrols came as government forces fighting Maute militants in Marawi City were blocking potential escape routes of the terrorists in waters around Mindanao.
