In the Gulf of Guinea, the US Consulate has praised the efforts of the Nigerian Navy in rescuing its abducted staff members from a kidnapping. The Navy has also deployed two gunboats to ensure maritime security around the new Lekki seaport. Efforts to suppress oil theft continue, with a major operation in Akwa Ibom.

In the Indian Ocean Region, the Royal Navy has made a major narcotics seizure in the Arabian Sea, while US Navy forces have transited the Strait of Hormuz to monitor the security situation there, following Iran’s third tanker arrest in recent weeks.

In European waters, the Black Sea Grain Initiative has been extended for 60 days, although a large number of vessels continue to wait for inspection at Istanbul. Seven people have appeared in court in the UK on charges related to people smuggling in the English Channel.
