In the Gulf of Guinea, local fishing communities in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, have complained that pirates are attacking them and stealing their outboard engines unchecked. The Nigerian Navy continues to fight back against oil theft. Personnel from Tompolo’s security company have discovered another, illegal pipeline used to steal oil from the Trans Forcados Export pipeline.

In the Indian Ocean Region, Houthi rebels used drones to attack the Ash Shihr oil terminal and a Saudi Arabian tanker which was in port. No damage was sustained, but the incident is a reminder of the risks posed to shipping in the region. Seychelles has joined the IMSC which operates to protect merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf.

In European waters, the Turkish Navy defused a stray naval mine in the Black Sea, while Russia has been urged to extend the current Grain Corridor agreement, which is set to expire in November. In the UK, police have made arrests in a people trafficking gang.
