Superyacht Security Systems
from MAST

MAST has extensive experience in designing technical superyacht security systems. Our teams have worked on new build yachts installing systems from scratch and refitting boats. Refits have included replacing and upgrading existing systems or retrofitting a brand-new system.

All our technical projects are bespoke and use MAST’s security controller software to combine a suite of sensors, cameras and locks into an integrated, intelligent security system.

MAST Security Controller & Interface

MAST has designed its own software and interface to manage sensors, cameras and locks. It is possible to integrate almost any IP-based hardware into the system.

The systems are controlled using MAST’s Security Interface; an intuitive, easy-to-use application typically installed on a touch screen display. The look and feel of the interface are fully customisable to suit the aesthetics of the yacht. For further information about the software, please click here.

MAST Intelligent Deck Sensory Array

Deck sensors are a small group of strain gauges glued onto the underside of a steel deck and measure minute changes in strain within the deck’s loading. The measurements made by the deck sensor(s) are passed to digital deck sensor processing units which analyse the incoming data and filter out any normal movement or flex caused by the ship’s motion. As a result, they are the most effective way of detecting when a person steps on the deck in a specific position or area. Digital deck sensor processing units have dramatically reduced false alarms.

Deck sensor arrays are installed underneath the deck and are completely invisible when on the deck itself.

For GRP hulls MAST has developed custom sensors which provide reliable intrusion detection whilst remaining invisible when on deck.

CCTV Systems

MAST’s security software is CCTV agnostic, hence we can combine any brand of CCTV network with a Security System from MAST. Much effort is made to ensure any CCTV infrastructure is kept as unobtrusive as possible. Alarms created by any motion or cross line detection software can be integrated into the MAST Security System. Alarms can also be sent to the CCTV system to activate preset positions in PTZ cameras.

If the network is connected to the web CCTV footage can be made available through a variety of PC/phone applications depending on the Video Management Software used.

Typically, MAST has installed Axis branded cameras as we have found these to have excellent performance and reliability in the marine environment and their suite of cameras incorporates the latest technology.

Automatic Secure CCTV Feeds – SSAS Response

MAST can provide covert recording of the bridge situation when the Ship’s Security Alert System is activated. The feed would then be passed back to shore side management to gain valuable situational awareness of the event.

Electronic Locking with Integration Package

MAST has pioneered the development of a variety of different electronic locks for the marine environment.

Our preferred choice for external doors is a solenoid lock produced by Magnet Schultz. The lock body and bolt sits in the door frame meaning the door does not require to be wired. They are IP65 rated, made of V4A stainless steel and provide the following indications:

Door is open

Door is closed

Door is locked (bolt fully extended)

Door is unlocked (bolt fully retracted)

This provides the security system with a full suite of indications without the requirement for additional sensors. Door indications can be passed to other systems that require them.

The locks themselves are mechanically very simple, the solenoids are German made to a high specification and they have proved to be exceptionally reliable.

There are also bolts suitable for sliding doors and hatches with an option to create a custom locks using Magnet Schultz solenoids.

Wireless locks for both internal and external use are also available. These can be retro-fitted in any door with an existing cylinder lock. These locks can be kept as standalone entities or connected to a wireless network to provide a coordinated locking system.

For powered and hatches MAST can integrate with the door controller to act as a locking mechanism.

Fob readers are added to the door controller to control access locally. These can be combined with key-pads on specific doors.

MAST Vessel Lock-down & Green Route Capability

Using electronic locks, MAST’s Security Controller can provide a vessel-wide lock-down capability allowing all selected doors to lock or unlock with a single button press.

It is also able to provide green route access by unlocking a door and disabling a specific set of sensors to allow a person to board or depart the yacht without triggering any alarms. The system will either re-arm when activated manually or automatically after a specified period of time.

With indications available for external doors, central control established via the MAST security system and electronic locks it is possible to program the security system with several pre-planned functions to cope with common operational requirements.

Emergency Lock-Down

All doors can be locked (or unlocked) with a single button press from any one of the control stations within the yacht.

Day/Night Mode

The system can be programmed to arm automatically at pre-set times in the day.

Green Route Access

To join or leave the yacht when the system is armed the system MAST provides Green Route access. This function will unlock a specified door (usually the crew door) and disarm any sensors on the route to the passerelle. The system can re-arm either after a specified time period or by the person rearming the system once complete. To depart typically there would be a button by the planned exit door and to enter a key fob would need to be presented at the call box by the passerelle.

Underway/Anchor/Alongside

Different operational situations require different modes. Presets can be created for a variety of different situations.

As MAST’s Security Controller and Interface are completely customisable MAST can cope with almost any request.

Security Event Distribution and Reporting

MAST’s Security Controller can capture and report data from CCTV, deck sensors, access breach, and system notifications.

MAST’s configurable, real-time alarm reporting can be integrated with third party monitoring systems including AMS, Ship’s Alarm Systems, crew radio, IP telephony, pagers, and others comms equipment.
