Military says pirates attack fishing boat off Zamboanga City; 5 of 7 crew who jumped overboard still missing

ZAMBOANGA CITY, the Philippines

Eight fishermen have been killed in an attack by suspected pirates off troubled southern Mindanao island, according to the Philippines’ military Tuesday.

Maj. Filemon Tan Jr., Western Mindanao Command spokesman, said in a statement that the fatalities were among a crew of 15 on a fishing boat that was strafed off Zamboanga City late Monday.
