Merged division would bring together almost 4,000 firearms officers

Downing Street is planning to establish the UK’s first national armed police unit for rapid deployment in the event of a Paris-style terror attack.
The proposal, currently under review by police chiefs, would combine firearms officers from the British Transport Police, the Civil Nuclear Constabulary and the Ministry of Defence Police to create a 4,000-strong armed force under one central command.
