It has been reported that the vessel attacked is Teekay LNG carrier Galicia Spirit.
Teekay have stated that “although the assailants did engage the vessel with small arms fire, the evidence suggests that no RPG was used during the attack”. Teekay further stated that “we have not been able to verify the identity of the assailants”.

UKMTO original report:
“MT reported attacked by a small boat at 1000 UTC in position 12°32’6N 043°32’8E, around 9nm SE of Perim Island off Yemen. Small vessel approached MT and fired RPG. Damage is unstated at this time. All crew are safe and MT has continued on her passage.”
At present it is unclear whether this is a terrorist attack or piracy. The attack appears to have occurred within the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS).
MAST understands that the vessel had no armed security team on board, and that the vessel sustained small arms fire. There was no pursuit by the attackers and the MT was able to escape. There is a coalition naval presence 6nm away from the point of the incident and a warship has been dispatched to the scene.
UPDATE Incident Report: MT attacked in the Bab el Mandeb TSS.
