Ghana is considering a new naval base at Ada to provide defence against piracy attacks and other maritime crime, following reported increases in illegal operations at sea.
In the Red Sea, Israel has conducted its first maritime security patrol with the US. Elsewhere in the Indian Ocean, there have been expressions of concern over the lack of maritime security planning surrounding the Mozambique insurgency.
And while there have been no reports of migrants crossing the English Channel in the past week, there has unfortunately been a significant loss of life in the Mediterranean.
