Weekly Security and Risk Report 04/08/2021

MAST’s weekly security report issue 292 is available to read now.

This past week has seen Nigeria and Ghana strengthening ties over security threats, with navy recruits successfully completing intensive training on issues including counter terrorism, hostage rescue and anti-piracy.

In the Indian Ocean, two seafarers were killed in a suspected drone attack on the MV Mercer Street. Elsewhere in the region, Somalia is to tighten the procedure for fishing licences amid many cases of illegal activities.

The severity of the ongoing migrant crisis continues to increase, with more than 700 migrants rescued in the past week in the Mediterranean, and approximately 3,500 crossing the English Channel to the UK in July alone.
