Weekly Security and Risk Report 09/06/2021

MAST’s weekly security report issue 284 is available to read now.

This week’s report details the kidnapping of five crew members from a fishing vessel by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea, and armed robbers boarding a tanker in Mozambique waters.

Last week saw the first Somaliland Parliamentary elections in 16 years, with two opposition parties winning a majority of the seats.

The report also highlights the scale of the current migrant crisis, as over 550 migrants have been rescued off the Libyan coast in the past week, and more than 9,100 people have attempted to cross seas to Europe in May.
