Weekly Security and Risk Report 11/08/2021

MAST’s weekly security report issue 293 is available to read now.

Two incidents were reported in the Gulf of Guinea in the last week, with intruders attempting to board one vessel and armed robbers boarding another the following day. No members of the crew were harmed on either vessel.

Last week also saw India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives agreeing to collaborate on security, including through enhanced intelligence sharing. It is hoped that the move will strengthen maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.

Putting a spotlight on the dangers of migrant crossings, the report details the tragic deaths of 42 migrants attempting to reach the Canary Islands.
