Weekly Security and Risk Report 28/07/2021

MAST’s weekly security report issue 291 is available to read now.

The past week has seen Nigeria sentencing 10 pirates for up to 12 years in jail for their role in hijacking a Chinese fishing vessel. This landmark ruling took place just days after the African Union and Gulf of Guinea Commission signed an agreement on maritime security and safety.

In South East Asia, the UK Royal Navy Strike Group conducted an exercise with the Republic of Singapore Navy, in an effort to advance interoperability and coordination between the two navies.

There has also been another surge of migrants crossing the English Channel, with 430 migrants crossing on Monday which is a new record for a single day.
